Mike Wengler group (rock/funk/blues):
Mike's rock/blues/funk group has been described as "guitar firestorms" by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and "like Tom Waits with attitude" by WMMM DJ - Madison. The group can play hundreds of originals and covers. The core of the group is guitar/bass/drums and vocals but can be stripped down for more intimate performances and blown up with the addition of keyboard, brass, and woodwinds. We cover music by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Radiohead, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, John Prine, Muddy Waters, Coldplay, Johnny Cash and many others. Michael started playing rock in high school bands inspired by local rock legends Wild Kingdom in Milwaukee, WI. Influenced by Wild Kingdom's mixture of funk and rock, Michael looked further and found the music of P-Funk, Parliament, James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone. His Junior year of high school, he joined his first band.Mike went to school at the University of Wisconsin and continued to play rock. He traveled around the midwest playing to regional followings atclubs, colleges and festivals. He opened for George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, The Violent Femmes, and Smashmouth. Upon graduation, Mike began traveling playing music more extensively eventually leading to a tour out to the East Coast including New York City. Having a great time in NYC's music scene, eventually Mike relocated to New York. He got a masters degree in guitar from New York University. Since then he has been playing the local New York clubs and also a 4 month gig in the Bahamas. Mike has recorded and performed with the bands Little Blue Crunchy Things, Marques Bovre and the Evil Twins, The sQuids, Crazy Morning, The Bradachs, and Lorenzos Music. |
