This guitar, trumpet, bass and drum quartet plays bebop, hard bop and soul jazz. The band was formed in 1997 and has played at the Triad Theater, C-Note, King Club, The Concourse, The Orpheum Theatre and many other venues. College performances include the University of Wisconsin Madison, Edgewood College, and Beloit College.

The Mike Wengler Quartet has been described as "A great jazz group with hints of funk and world music" -The Isthmus 2002

In 2001, the group relesed its debut cd under the name Sapphire Tonic "Orange Light and a Booth."

Mike Wengler has studied with Richard Davis, Mordy Ferber, and Les Thimmig. He has worked for The Madison Jazz Orchesta. The Madison Jazz Orchestra has played Governor Doyle's inaugaral ball. Mike has performed with John Savage, Matt Shulman, Keith Porteous, Vicki Levy, Joe Quigley, Greg Landes, Jamie Ryan, Ken Fitzsimmons, Phil Zell, Leo Sidran, Jim Daugherty, Erica Mather, Tim Whalen and many others.
